Hi, You're receiving this email because {name} thinks the Te Urewera Treks would interest you. Kia ora and welcome to Te Urewera Treks We offer a range of unique 1 to 3-day wilderness walks for people looking for a truly special trekking experience. Our treks venture into the remote forests of Te Urewera and Whirinaki which are home to some of New Zealand’s most magnificent indigenous rainforest as well as the beautiful Lake Waikaremoana. The region is also rich in native birdlife like kereru, tui, and kaka. As part of the trekking experiences, our local Maori guides share their knowledge of the plants and wildlife of the area, the fascinating histories of this remote place, as well as food and medicinal uses for native plants. Our one-day Whirinaki Loop Trek operates on a daily basis from October to April. This trek involves 4-5 hours of relatively easy walking on a well formed trail in the Whirinaki Forest. Our other 1-day wilderness trek called the "Urewera Ridgeline" follows an ancient Maori trail, once used to access traditional kereru harvesting areas. Majestic views of the wider, Te Urewera region are part of this experience. This trek is offered on demand and involves 5 - 6 hours walk along an unformed trail requiring a reasonable level of fitness. Both treks include pick up in Rotorua at about 9am (from the Visitor Centre or most accommodation places), snacks and lunch, and an optional hot pool dip on the way back to Rotorua, arriving back at about 5.30–6.30pm. Bookings need to be made by 5pm on the day before the trek. Our one-day treks operate on demand over the winter season, subject to availability and weather. We also offer an overnight experience which combines the Ridgeline and Whirinaki Loop treks with overnight accommodation at our own, private, fully equiped bush camp. Our 3-day experience includes the Whirinaki Loop trek, an overnight stay at our bush camp and 2 additional days trekking through beech forest in Te Urewera National Park, a short boat excursion on Lake Waikaremoana and a journey by road, back to Rotorua. This trek involves 4-5 hours walking each day with a mix of easy to moderate walking conditions requiring a moderate level of fitness. All meals, snacks and camping equipment are provided for this experience.
