Took me a while to write this as been so busy with work as we were before we went here. However, our trip to Kokohuia couldn't have been less hectic. Steve was the perfect host, popped up and ran through everything in the lodge and made the nicest little breakfasts in the morning. We went on a few walks and STeve has a few suggestions himself. Its so relaxing in Kokohuia and it has everything you want including a Chemex with fresh ground coffee. I couldnt recommend this place highly enough. Wether you are wanting to get away from the rat race for a few days, go on a romantic retreat or just go see more of the North, I would give this place more than 5 stars if i could! Thanks Steve, hope to come back in a few months. Adam & Kelly

Kokohuia Lodge and it's graceful hosts, Steve and Suzanne exceeded all of our expectations.
We enjoyed beautifully prepared food, stunning views and luxurious comfort. All of this at great value for money. The surrounding area is beautiful and offers something for everyone. I can't recommend Kokohuia more highly. The perfect peaceful getaway. A bath watching the sunset over the harbour with a nice glass of wine is a must!.

WOW - Kokohuia lodge was everything we'd hoped for and more. The lodge itself is simply stunning and feels like complete luxury. The views are to die for and can be enjoyed from the luxurious bed or bath!
The food was delicious, local and organic. The eco-story behind the lodge is just inspiring and the hosts couldn't have been more helpful from suggested on walks and activities to fill your day through a tour of the property and even a free lift to and from dinner. This was the best of NZ hospitality in one of the most beautiful parts of the country! We'll certainly be back.

My husband and I returned home to the USA a few weeks ago, after six months exploring all over New Zealand. Predictably, our friends have asked all about our travel and experiences there, where we stayed, our favorite places, and so on. Perhaps not so predictably, the place that keeps floating to the top of our list of favorites is Kokohuia Lodge on Hokianga Harbour. I tell people that I lucked into it on-line, and when I send them the link I add that, as wonderful as the site and photos are, the reality of the place is even more remarkable. It's also the perfect backdrop and launching pad for exploring Waipoua Forest with its phenomenal kauri trees and waterfront villages, and is an easy drive to the Bay of Islands.
We have always been pretty solidly green and eco-conscious, but Kokohuia Lodge is so much more than just that. It is also jaw-dropping gorgeous (even the car park is a stunner!), and the views are a balm to the spirit. Hosts Steve and Suzanne are an absolute delight and serve beautiful food that both flatters and respects Mother Nature. I celebrated my birthday there, and there's no place else I'd rather have been. In a word, it is quite simply... FANTASTIC.

We’re proudly off-grid, producing our own solar electricity and solar hot water. The one hectare of native bush, maturing orchards, pasture and gardens is managed organically. Delicious breakfasts are prepared using organic home-grown or local produce wherever possible. Dinner available on request.
