Welcome to New Zealand at its Best

Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences.

But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses.

Full Description

The early morning mists which surround the hills of the Whanganui River Valley and lie like a warm blanket over the water, are often the first glimpse visitors have of our world where visual splendour and simple community life fit comfortably together.

In this peaceful valley where the scenery portrayed in Vincent Wards movie River Queen overwhelms the senses, visitors are invited to step into a world where the pace of life perceptibly slows and simple pleasures can be rediscovered.

In a world gone crazy The Flying Fox offers a haven, where the environment is important, and the only appointment you need to keep is with your transport across the river. Two guest cottages lovingly created from recycled materials overlook the river.

Comfortably furnished with an eclectic style, they are fully equipped for self catering and contain many options to contribute to your sense of relaxation, books, magazines, records, CDs etc.

Organic gardens and orchards together with local farms provide a wealth of nourishing ingredients for the range of both satisfyingly familiar and innovative meal options, components and condiments produced from our kitchen and available for sale in ‘The Store’ at The Flying Fox. Relax, take a deep breath of fresh air and begin to unwind ... You will never want to leave!

Environment Friendly Action

Our cottages are built and furnished using recycled and rescued materials, including adobe using crushed pumice from previous lava flows. We collect rainwater, use composting loos and use sustainable energy as much as is practical.

Organic Meals

We provide as many organic ingredients as possible in our meals, and use slow food methods.
Locally roasted organic coffee is provided, we purchase organic tea, sugar etc, and have wine, beer etc for sale in our little store.

Breakfast is either pre-stocked in the cottage, or we deliver breakfast or guests can self cater.

Each cottage has both an upstairs and a downstairs bedroom, a total of four bedrooms. Each bedroom has a double or queen-sized bed and a single bed. Each cottage has it's own bathroom.
