Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Full Description

Centre Hill has been farmed by Ian Blakemore since 1968, and gained full organic certification status in 1990. Ian farms deer for venison, beef cattle, sheep and potatoes. You are welcome to tour the farm and learn about its operations during your stay at Centre Hill Cottage farmstay, and to sample organic produce. For those wanting to stay "close to home" during their stay, local activities include on-property swimming (pool), lawn tennis court (in season), and farm walks. The scenery (and peaceful atmosphere) is ideal for sketching, painting and photography. Pleasant Point - a five-minute drive away - has local artisan shops, restaurants, a golf course, and a steam train and museum.

Organic Meals

Your stay includes a complimentary food hamper and wine on arrival.

A special highlight of your stay is breakfast supplied by your host, Ian. It includes freshly homebaked bread, organic fruits, cereal and condiments.

Facilities

Bedrooms
There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and superb views to the countryside (photo, middle right), the other with two single beds and ample storage room. Electric blankets and bedding are supplied.

Bathroom
The cottage has a luxurious bathroom that includes: heated floor tiles, modern shower, wash basin, three-person raised spa bath (with a view), and fan extractor. Two separate toilets are installed, one indoors and the other attached outside.

A special feature is the outdoor bath tub, with hot and cold water and peaceful views over farmland to the setting sun and the Southern Alps.

Directions

Centre Hill is well signposted from Pleasant Point, with blue Farm Stay signs.

* Tengawai Road leaves the main highway at the western end of the town.
* After leaving the residential area, the road bends to cross the Tengawai River (a one-lane bridge, so take care) and then turns to the left.
* About 2km on, turn left at the Y-junction that forms Howell Road, and the entrance to Centre Hill is about half a kilometre on.
