Welcome to New Zealand at its Best

Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences.

But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses.

Full Description

Stay in your own private cabin or share accommodation with a group of family or friends in a tranquil peaceful setting beside Hokianga Harbour. Conveniently located close to the Hokianga Harbour ferry and Northland's premier touring route The Twin Coast Discovery Highway on route to Waipoua Kauri Forest from Cape Reinga and Bay of Islands.

Thirty years ago the Evans family moved from Sydney, Australia to Kohukohu, New Zealand to establish a tree and garden landscape, based on permaculture principles, on 6 hectares of farmland beside Hokianga Harbour. The wooden homestead and cabins that Phil and Pauline created are now nestled in to a lush and diverse  landscape of trees, subtropical gardens, native forest. woodland, wetlands and birds that is enjoyed by independent travellers and bicycle tourists from New Zealand and around the world.

Relax on the deck of their own cabin or share the outdoor and indoor living spaces of the main wooden homestead.

Kitchen, shower, toilets and laundry are shared by all guests, a maximum of 15 to 20 people. All buildings and facilities and car park are connected by natural gravel paths, wooden stairs ,verandahs and decks.

We welcome enquiries from  travellers and small groups. Our hilltop cabin is ideal for a group of up to  4-6 people and the Pond and Brook Cabins for couples or singles looking for a tranquil and peaceful retreat. The dorm rooms are convenient for overnight stays.

Walk our nature trail and find out about the plants, birds and animals on our property. Visit the local heritage precincts of Kohukohu and Rawene and take day trips to kauri forests, heritage and maori and european cultural sites, art galleries, local cafes and west coast beaches.

For those requiring self-contained accommodation a harbourside holiday house is available in the village of Kohukohu, 5 kms from The Tree House. The holiday house is called "Kohukohu Cottage".
