KEA Campers is renowned as an industry leader for our quality and innovation. Because of the nature of our business and our customers, we have been considering the environmental and social impact of our business since it was founded in 1995.

In addition to having the youngest fleet in the industry, KEA also has the most environmentally-friendly vehicles. Every vehicle features solar paneling, renewable materials, the most advanced emission control standards, best-practice waste management systems and the lowest fuel consumption rates of any campervan rental company across Australia, New Zealand and Southern Africa.

In New Zealand, KEA is also Green Globe benchmarked as well as being the first campervan and motorhome company to have vehicles certified self-contained through the New Zealand Motorhome and Caravan Association (NZMCA). We have also completed a measurement programme through CarbonZero to allow us to monitor, and decrease, our emissions. In Australia, KEA is the only campervan rental company to have achieved the Leave No Trace certification of the Campervan Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA).

Our sustainability strategy is:

To operate the most environmentally-friendly and fuel-efficient motorhomes and campervans on the market.

To encourage our customers to behave in a way that leaves the NZ environment cleaner than when they arrived – and facilitate this behaviour.

To empower our staff to embrace environmentally friendly practises in both their personal and working lives.

To influence our business partners to adopt environmentally-friendly practises.

Specific initiatives KEA has implemented include:

• All our vehicle engines comply to the highest European/international emissions standards, and our fleet is renewed every 2.5 years
• We use timber from renewable plantations, and environmentally friendly veneer, in all our vehicles’ interior joinery
• Our 2, 4 and 6 berth campervans are certified self-contained - suitable for free camping
• We have sponsored the introduction of many dump stations throughout NZ
• Our vehicles all have solar panels fitted
• We service our vehicles regularly, clean and maintain the air filters, and have an EGR systeam and/or particle filter in each vehicle
• We use long-life oils and we recycle our waste oil, vehicle batteries and tyres
• The campervan/motorhome component of our vehicles (everything except the chassis) is made in NZ
• We recycle our paper and cardboard, as well as brochures and vehicle manuals
• We give paper fibre shopping bags to every customer
• We provide environmentally-friendly equipment such as water filters and rechargeable torches in every vehicle
• We offer GPS systems as an alternative to paper maps so our customers can travel by the most efficient route
  
  Every KEA customer receives a copy of our KEAgreen guidelines to help us help the environment.

The KEA Auckland Depot is situated approximately 40 minutes north of Auckland International Airport. We are located on the beautiful North Shore renowned for its pristine and sunny beaches, the historic suburb of Devonport and the lovely shopping and café area of Takapuna. The depot has excellent access to the Northern and Southern Motorways from which you start your holiday.

KEA provides a free transfer on the first and last day of your hire to/from the airport or to your hotel. Please email our reservations team with your accommodation or flight details.

The KEA Christchurch depot is situated approximately 10 minutes north of Christchurch Airport. Located on the East coast of the South Island Christchurch is internationally known as the ‘Garden City’ for it’s beautiful parks and gardens. When visiting Christchurch be sure to visit some of our many local attractions, go punting on the Avon River or stroll through the flourishing Botanical gardens. Otherwise there is great shopping in the city centre for everyone.
