Welcome to New Zealand at its Best

Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences.

But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses.

Full Description

Using their combined skills, Gary and Julie have constructed their biggest sculpture yet … a 2 – storied stabilised Adobe house (living space). Over the past 4 years they have hand placed hundreds of tonnes of Earth, mixed that with a lot of hard work and perseverance. The Project is called “Artists House”. It incorporates Artwork; displayed in a gallery, in garden setting, and studio. Workshops usually explore working with Earth, including a wide variety of new mixes we have developed, pottery or an art development theme.

Unique accommodation will also be available soon, and they offer guided tours of the house and garden. After 4 years of building the “8th Wonder of the World”, they are getting back into production. Besides the garden sculpture (Pottery) they have become known for, Julie and Gary have added paintings, and an exciting new medium called “Earth Fondue”. It is constructed over a steel aperture, doesn’t require firing, thus allowing for freedom with size and form.

A developing acre of gardens include a bird corridor, edible ornamentals, assorted fruits and berries, and medallion vegetable gardens, a planned “overland waterway reserve”, incorporating permaculture concepts. The whole property reflects their ideals. It is a demonstration of modern sustainable living, an example of an artisan lifestyle, plenty of creative problem solving, recycling … basically inspiration!

Other Environment Friendly Initiatives

Nature Guides Otago is a business that seeks to operate in a responsible and sustainable way.

For our tours this means:
Minimising negative impact on the environment by only taking small groups of people to sensitive nature and wildlife areas while providing educational and enjoyable experiences. We offer an opportunity for active participation in conservation.

For our base, Nisbet Cottage, this means:
Applying the motto “re-use – re-duce – re-cycle” in as many aspects as possible and providing opportunities for our guests to contribute to sustainability.
