Welcome to New Zealand at its BestOrganic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand. Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences. But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination. Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses. Kelmarna Organic City Farm
Full DescriptionEstablished in 1981 as a working model of localised urban organic vegetable and fruit production, Kelmarna Gardens provides opportunities for educational gardening for mental health clients in a tranquil and therapeutic green-space. The original objectives of organic gardener and project initiator Paul Lagestedt included the growing of food to promote better nutrition, education, employment and beautification of the environment. The fulfillment of these objectives has maintained and enhanced a healing landscape and has effectively encouraged personal wellness and has strengthened the sense of community. The garden ecology combines with areas of native tree reforestation and provides space for chickens and cows. An on-site shop sells garden-fresh produce and customers can also "pick-your-own salad" from the gardens. Available all year. Open HoursMost days 9.00 - 5.00pm - when gate open so is the shop.
DirectionsKelmarna Gardens is located in between Herne Bay and Grey Lynn on Hukanui Crescent, off Kelmarna Avenue.
