Travel deep into the heart of the Southern Alps to the parklands of the Lewis Pass, where snowcapped mountains surround and steam billows from natural hot spring pools, and discover a natural thermal wonderland that begs to be explored. For here on the banks of the Maruia River, in a sheltered valley in the Lewis Pass, is Maruia Springs Thermal Resort, a unique tourist mountain hideaway with a more than a little touch of Japan.

Set beside the Maruia River, each thermal pool is a perfectly formed tarn, built from the smoothest of river rocks. For extra privacy, individual spas and hot pools overlooking the river, mountains and rock strewn valley, are available, while a traditional Japanese bathhouse provides segregated public bathing, to relax and unwind.

Twenty spacious alpine lodge style guestrooms offer panoramic mountain vistas, and comfortable quality décor and furniture throughout. At the main resort building, Shuzan - an Asian fusion restaurant - and a comfortable guest lounge with Wireless internet Café/Bar.

Breakfast, Light lunch, Dinner and snacks are available throughout the day. Maruia Springs Thermal Resort is located in natural, tranquil surroundings. It provides a special place to escape the crowds and rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit in healing, mineral-laden hot thermal pools, whilst enjoying the natural outdoors beauty of the Lewis Pass National Park.

Maruia Springs Thermal Resort caters for all tastes and budgets with a casual, fast-food snack bar, an informal café and a restaurant.
At the snack bar, passersby can purchase takeaway food items including own baked Gourmet muffins. Our café provides casual dining during lunch hours, while the intimate setting of Restaurant Shuzan satisfies the tastes of those seeking a fine dining experience.

Facilities

Accommodation at Maruia Springs Thermal Resort is spacious and comfortable. There are twenty rooms, set well apart from the main lodge building, to choose from including ten Mountain View Rooms, nine Garden View Rooms and one Family Room, all with adjoining ensuite bathrooms.

Comfortable beds, dining table and chairs, a fridge, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, come as standard. Ranch sliders open up onto balconies set with outdoor furniture overlooking Maruia River and the mountains of the Southern Alps.

Maruia Springs remote location allows you to relax away from the stress and technology of your everyday life (please note: there is no mobile phone coverage). We are different from other hotels you may have stayed in as we don't have tvs, radios, SKY or a telephone in your room. This adds to the experience of Maruia Springs.

Please note: Tariff includes room and unlimited access to the pools. (A small additional fee is applicable for Private Spa usage.)

Activities

In the Japanese language (Niigata dialect), Jono-Be means sit back, stretch and enjoy total relaxation.

After a soak in Maruia's natural healing hot springs you'll be ready to try our specialized Oriental/European method of massage and reflexology.

In the peaceful surroundings of the Jono-Be suite professional therapists are on standby, however due to popular demand, we recommend booking early for this massage service - if possible when you are booking accommodation.

A 30-minute foot or body care session in the Jono-Be room costs $45, but naturally you're free to book in for longer...
