Carolyn and John are passionate about permaculture, and organic nutrition, many of the foods are grown here; breakfasts and meal options are brimming with superfoods and vitality.
You can tailor components of your stay at Whakamaui to a high degree. Enjoy meals at one of Tutukaka fine restaurants or café’s or you can cook your own BBQ and enjoy an evenings alfresco dinning by a huge open fire, or share a vegetarian meal with the family. Carolyn and John offer the culinary delights cooked in the wood fired oven. We cater for many dietary requirements. Just let us know when you make your booking.
Whakamaui offers extraordinary holiday accommodation. The property has sea access through a magical private cove where a natural spring joins the ocean. A few minutes walk from the house you can plunge into pristine waters, snorkel, picnic, and fish off the rocks or kayak away to your heart's content. Inside, find serenity in fine linen, sumptuous beds and a collection of local and Australian art.

Three generations of our family are guardians of this wonderful stretch of land at the Middle Gable in Tutukaka. Whakamaui has a long term vision and is involved in many projects including organic food production through Permiculture, Eco/Earth buildings, Reforestation - Project Crimson. Our goal has been to engage strategy to live symbiotically within the ecosystem to create a sustainable future.
We are developing a varied and natural foods supply for ourselves, our guests and filtering out into the local community. We have a focus on super foods that offer optimum vitality, health and wellbeing. We endeavour to live more naturally, be more connected to the living earth and enjoy the creativity that that provides. Its a unique experience.

Directions
Whakamaui is situated on the sheltered northern side of the Middle Gable. The property is nestled in its' own ampitheatre surrounded by native bush and the views are dominated by The Poor Knights Islands over the sparkling waters.
Drive to Tutukaka from Whangarei Northland. Continuing along Matapouri Road towards Matapouri from Tutukaka, Middle Ridge is the 3rd turn-off on the right after Landowners Lane and Waipouri Lane (Rocky Bay Alpacas). This is approximately 2 kms past the Oceans Hotel.
Turning onto Middle Ridge, Whakamaui is 1.43kms along on the left.
