Welcome to New Zealand at its Best

Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences.

But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses.

Full Description

The Opua Home was designed by internationally-renowned eco-architect, Graeme North for a family who are not always in New Zealand and who like to share their house with like-minded visitors.

Besides the delights of the architecture (which include a semi-circular earth brick wall which absorbs heat by day and releases it by night), the house is well-stocked with books, music, movies and all the staples a health-conscious cook would like to find in his/her pantry. It's a home and it's yours for your holiday.

The house enjoys a spectacular view of the Bay of Islands and is nestled into native bush which adjoins Harrison Reserve -- the last remaining tract of coastal virgin bush in Northland. Some nights you'll hear kiwis calling outside your bedroom window.

Below the house is a small semi private beach and there is a coastal track by which you can walk in to Opua one way or Paihia in the other direction.

In-house shiatsu/massage treatments and/or private yoga classes can be arranged for you. The upstairs mezzanine living area is ideal for luxurious unwinding.

A wood-burning fire heats the house and hot water in the winter; solar panels heat the hot water in the summer. The walls and ceilings are insulated with natural wool and the house maintains comfortable temperatures throughout the year. A tank collects pure rainwater for your delicious drinking pleasure. All timbers in the house are treated with natural finishes and we do not use pesticides or harsh cleaning agents.

The mattresses are high quality and the bathrooms are luxuriously appointed. Space and pleasant surprises unfold in every direction. Peaceful comfort and inspiration are what you will find here.
