The book is a terrific collection of New Zealand eco travel experiences ranging from well-known major operators to hidden gems throughout the country.

The Summit Lodge was opened in December 2009 and is constructed with sustainability in mind. Double glazing, insulation, low water use fixtures and fittings, rainwater collection and grey water system.  The lodge is single storey and features wide doorways and corridors to ensure easy access for all.  One room provides a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

In what started out as a sheep paddock, the lodge now sits in a large, established garden planted along permaculture principles.  Many native plants and a few 'exotics' provide habitat for birds and bees!  In addition to the wildlife, the lodge is home to 7 friendly alpacas, a Labrador dog, Dexter; 5 cats and a number of chickens.

The Summit Lodge hosts, Tracey and Jim, are known for their warm hospitality and tasty cooking!  Home baking is always available and breakfasts feature home baked bread, fresh fruit, home made muesli as well as  eggs from our free range chickens and locally sourced organic bacon and sausages.  People with dietary needs such as vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free can all be catered for.

A great location to explore the Wairarapa - the coastline, the Tararua ranges, Stone Henge Aotearoa, The Vintage Aviation Collection, white kiwi-birds at Pukaha Mount Bruce as well as the many fabulous wineries.
