The Harbour Co-op

The Harbour Co-op

Formerly Lyttel Piko  - a branch of the iconic Piko Wholefoods in Christchurch. After the earthquakes re-modelled as a community owned co-operative. Now known as The Harbour Coop.

You'll find all of the same great products (and a few extras), same reasonable prices, same rustic atmosphere, but you also get to visit the historic port of Lyttelton with all of its ecclectic charm, providing a gateway to explore the rest of Banks Pennisula.

We stock a bit of everything (organic and local when available): fruit/veg, hot food, fresh baked snacks, flours, dried beans, grains, nuts, on-tap liquids, cleaning products, natural health and beauty, baby-care, books, magazines, cards, essential oils, vitamin supplements, plus a wide selection of gluten free products. We love chatting to travellers!

Why a co-op?

Because together we can achieve things that we couldn’t possibly achieve on our own.

Aside from the practical consideration of keeping good quality food available in our community, there are other reasons that we are forming a co-op:

We are excited about being involved in a democratically-run store, rather than just shopping at a store owned by some corporation or individual; we can ensure that any profits resulting from our consumption are returned to the community (through member specials, educational initiatives, member-approved community developments…).
Cooperating with others in our co-op gives a sense of ownership and connectedness. Working and cooperating with others, we can meet people with similar environmental and social values, while improving the community we live in.
We can be involved in a business that is socially and environmentally conscious.
