Welcome to New Zealand at its Best

Organic Explorer has carved out a name for itself as a comprehensive resource for travellers seeking eco-friendly experiences in New Zealand.

Through its website and travel guides, it has provided travellers with an abundance of information about everything from organic cafe's and eco-lodges to nature tourism and Maori cultural experiences.

But Organic Explorer’s efforts have gone further than just informing travellers about the variety of eco-friendly experiences available in New Zealand. It has also helped raise international awareness of New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Eco-tourism experiences feature on many international visitors’ holiday plans and that will only increase Organic Explorer’s relevance to visitors and local eco-tourism businesses.

From our base at The Wharf Hub, OPOTIKI, NZ which is conveniently located alongside the historic Opotiki wharf,  we offer marine tours and workshops.

Ever popular is eco fishing. You can catch enough fish for your dinner at our Recreational Enhanced Area for Fishing (REAF) or go a bit further out at 10km to visit leading mussel aquaculture and try your hand at catching the powerful 'KingFish'.

Equally popular is our 10km kayak  run down the Waioeka River (ranked one of the top 10 rivers in Bay of Plenty). You can even paddle the estuary and out to the sea. Its an easy grade 1-2 river ideal for beginners.  Allow 3 hours.

Details of costs and other marine related activities we offer can be found at our web site.  www.reaf.co.nz

Between two of us, within a single hour - an astonishing catch of 27 good size fish, 14 snapper, the rest kahawai, gurnard, and koheru. Such fishing we haven't experienced in decades!

Ray and I started to fish and within a minute I had hooked my first fish, under Maori culture your first fish is released, I was a bit sad but no sooner had my hook hit the bottom again than I had another bite.

Having done some research on sustainable fishing methods, visiting the Opotiki Community Reef site was incredibly interesting. It is an excellent example of what can be done to ensure that fish populations thrive in the future.
