The location at PRANA is exclusive.
No noise, no connection to community except its own, totally devoid of any pollution or population. A magnificent setting of land/bush and beach. An authentic back to nature experience. A unique natural environment of park like setting close to an unpopulated, just 5 minutes walk iconic untouched-by-man beach.

The large 100-acre natural site and coastal positioning is magnificent. Nestled between rock faces covered in magnificent ancient Pohutakawas and a pristine dune beach with 165.25 million sq.km of the Pacific Fresh Air System in front of it.

PRANA Retreat celebrates for days with a New Year Festival of music, art, dance, healthy food and performance. This iconic festival, now more than 12 years old is a gathering of the like-minded and friends in a quintessentially New Zealand holiday time.

Amongst a multitude of activities, PRANA retreat is a place to rejuvenate body and soul, swim, surf, scuba dive or meditate.

PRANA is dedicated to Education in Natural Health, Organic Gardening, Musical & Dance Expression, plus Therapies for Higher Consciousness.

Our vision is to provide an environment where people learn to rejuvenate the mind and body through practicing proper breathing, nutrition, exercise, relaxation, and meditation.

Driving Directions to PRANA Retreat
PRANA Retreat is about 2 hours driving from Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton.
  • Just north of Whangamata turn at Opoutere.
  • Follow the Opoutere Rd, which turns, into Ohui Rd. (gravel road, drive slowly).
  • Near the end, turn right at the PRANA Retreat entrance, and follow the signs.
From Auckland:
  • Take the State Highway -1- to the south.
  • Over the Bombay hills turn left and take the -2- for Coromandel - Peninsula.
  • Turn left and take the -25- for Coromandel/Thames.
  • From Kopu take the -25a- to Whangamata.
  • Over the hills turn right to take the -25- to Whangamata.
  • Turn left at Opoutere.
  • Once you turn off at Opoutere follow the Opoutere Rd., which turns, into Ohui Rd. (gravel road, drive slowly).
  • Near the end by the sign 'PRANA' turn right, enter, and follow the signs and register at the designated point.
From Tauranga:
  • Take the State Highway -2- to Waihi.
  • From Waihi take the -25- to Whangamata.
  • Past Whangamata, direction Thames/Hikuai, turn right at Opoutere.
  • Once you turn off at Opoutere follow the Opoutere Rd., which turns, into Ohui Rd. (gravel road, drive slowly).
  • Near the end by the sign 'PRANA' turn right, enter, and follow the signs and register at the designated point.
From Hamilton:
  • Take the 26 to Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Paeroa and either choose Kopu (see From Auckland) or Waihi (see From Tauranga) to reach the turnoff Opoutere.
  • Once you turn off at Opoutere follow the Opoutere Rd., which turns, into Ohui Rd. (gravel road, drive slowly).
  • Near the end by the sign 'PRANA' turn right, enter, and follow the signs and register at the designated point.

Pre-book so that the bus stops at Opoutere, and let us know at PRANA and we will pick you up (10mins to PRANA).
