Welcome to a community development in the environmental arts. Te Puna Quarry Park is being developed by a dedicated band of volunteers from a disused quarry into a world class park. This old scar on the hillside has become a place of special beauty.  There are picnic areas, sculptures and mosaics situated throughout the park.

From the upper levels there is a spectacular panoramic view out over the Bay of Plenty. There are ponds, tree ferns, cymbidium orchids by the thousand, native tree plantings and exotics such as vireya rhododendrons - a wild garden of infinite variety. Special garden areas being developed include irises, cacti and succulents, an Australian area, a native Arboretum, a Bonsai corner, a South African area and a Palm Grove.

Featured throughout the Park, are stone sculptures by local artists. The quarry is now becoming popular as an exhibition area for outdoor art and also for weddings. The walking tracks are easy for the moderately fit. This is a place to enjoy, a place of nature and tranquility, of stunning views and great art.

Why not visit us some time! If you do, you will be sure to return one day!

Membership

At the present time, the Te Puna Quarry Park Society Inc. has a membership of 334 plus 50 supporting companies and organisations. A Committee of 12 oversees progress, obtains funding (mostly by applying for grants from local government and charitable organisations), and plans the future development of the park. Members of the Society are encouraged to take part in events held at the park and also to contribute by way of voluntary labour in the ongoing work of park development.

A dedicated band of helpers attend work sessions every Tuesday morning and on one Sunday a month. They undertake the work of clearing, planting and weed control while enjoying the togetherness of a team project. The morning tea break is time for a rest and a chat and often a few laughs.

Many members choose to support passively with their membership subscription alone amd others are very generous with their donations. Every member and supporter receives the Society newsletter.
